We believe that equitable representation is crucial to a healthy, vibrant community. With the October 2021 election, we are one step closer on the pathway to achieving that goal.
But we aren’t there yet. We still have work to do.
Ask Her is a proudly non-profit, non-partisan, and for-purpose organization. Run entirely by a dedicated and passionate team of volunteers, we are working hard to advance equitable representation in municipal government. We do this by supporting women and gender-diverse folks to run for office.
In just a few years, we’ve already had a marked impact on the city. We’ve trained over 140 women to run, and four now sit as elected leaders in Calgary and surrounding areas.
We continue our work to not only train the women who are stepping forward with courage but also inspire a generation to see the possibility and opportunity to shape the future in their city.
We can do more. And we must.
Whether it’s a one-time gift or monthly support, every dollar helps us support future women leaders who will shape our city for generations.
Join our commitment to shaping a City Council that looks like the city it serves.
Our Impact So Far
Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I donate?
It’s simple: Our City’s leadership should look like us.
We believe that Calgary’s City Council is strong, better, and more effective when it reflects the community it serves.
We advance inclusive and equitable representation by preparing women of diverse backgrounds to engage in municipal leadership. You can help with a modest one-time or recurring donation and be confident 100% of your money will go to support programs to make a difference in the upcoming 2021 municipal election and beyond.
What will my donation go to support?
Training and Development
Ask Her YYC offers a robust suite of workshops and programs focused on supporting women of diverse backgrounds to engage in municipal leadership. While our organization is entirely volunteer-run, with no paid staff or remuneration for board members, we still incur costs for staging events, allocating funds towards honorariums and speaker fees, and our online and in-person training and development programs.
Reducing Barriers and Expanding Networks
The most common barriers for women are often financial. These can include costs for transportation, childcare, and program/event fees. To remain as accessible as possible, we will continue to offer financial assistance by providing a low-cost/no-cost option whenever possible and childcare support for in-person programming. Your donation would help us increase our ability to do so.
Organizational Sustainability
Building our capacity as a growing organization will allow us to achieve our goals and continue to invest in the women we support.
