Alexandra Ballos
Director-at-Large
Alexandra Ballos has built her work around a deep interest in Alberta politics, public policy, and the communities that shape both.
Professionally, she works in government affairs with Alberta Counsel, where she helps organizations navigate Alberta’s political landscape, build relationships with decision-makers, and advance priorities through thoughtful government relations and advocacy strategies. Her work spans the nonprofit, municipal, post-secondary, and community sectors.
As a lifelong Albertan, Alex is especially passionate about provincial and municipal politics and the relationship between local communities and higher levels of government. She is interested in how political narratives, regional identities, and community priorities influence decision-making, and in how stronger relationships between municipalities, organizations, and government can produce better public policy.
Outside of her professional work, Alex is the Founder and Executive Director of the Gravel Road Civics Project and a co-founder of Municipal YYC. Through these initiatives, she has worked to make politics more accessible, strengthen civic literacy, and create more opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in public life. This extends to her focus on building women's access to leadership and creating stronger pathways for them to see themselves in civic, political, and decision-making spaces. She believes strong communities depend on people feeling informed, connected, and confident enough to participate.
She holds a First-Class Honours BA in Political Science from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Calgary.
